All things considered

So, here we find ourselves in a world where computer projections are more valid than what we se with our own eyes. A world where we are told that if we don’t repent now and change our ways, future genrations will be damned to a tenuous life, living on the brink of disaster. We have scared our children into thinking that the end is near.

Yet we ignore the world around us. We are told that millions might die when millions are already dying, not from global warming or climate change, but from current poverty in 3rd world nations. Buy carbon credits to ease your soul, but don’t address the real and current problems of poverty and death that besets the world’s poorest people. Worry about a change in temperature that is damned near to small to measure reliably, act now! The apocalypse is near at hand, send money to your nearest carbon offset provider!

Its time to stop and think. Its time to listen carefully and think critically about the messages that we hear. Its time to look for ourselves and make our own judgements about what needs to be done, not to cave in to the current doom-sayers. 100 trillion dollars could be spent to alleviate 0.07 degrees of warming (maybe) or it could be spent to help the 3rd world gain self sufficiency and sustainability. What’s the choice? Where are the morals and ethics?
